MUKALLA – A training workshop titled Excellence in Reception Skills for Tourism Facility Staff was launched today in Mukalla, Hadhramaut Governorate, in conjunction with the Al-Balada Tourism Festival.
The event was held under the patronage of Presidential Leadership Council Member and Governor of Hadhramaut, Salem Al-Khanbashi, and with the support of Minister of Culture and Tourism, Engineer Mutee Ahmad Dammaj.
The workshop is part of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism’s efforts to upgrade the skills of workers in the tourism sector and promote a culture of hospitality and professionalism in dealing with visitors. The goal is to improve the quality of tourism services and reinforce Yemen’s image as a civilized and welcoming destination.
Investing in people is the real investment in the future of tourism,” organizers said. Training front-desk staff is the first step toward delivering a high-level tourism experience that reflects the authenticity of Yemeni hospitality while meeting modern professional standards. This will strengthen Hadhramaut’s position and place Yemen on the tourism map.
Hadhramaut and Socotra: Key Pillars for Yemen’s Tourism Future
Hadhramaut is gaining momentum as a cultural and heritage destination, with its historic city of Shibam, Wadi Hadhramaut, and the Al-Balada Festival attracting growing domestic and regional interest. Improving staff training in Mukalla’s hotels is expected to directly raise service standards for visitors to the coast and the interior.
At the same time, Socotra continues to be Yemen’s flagship eco-tourism destination. With its unique biodiversity, pristine beaches, and growing air connectivity, Socotra offers immense potential for sustainable tourism. Desert Sky Travel sees the government’s focus on hospitality training and festivals as critical to linking mainland destinations like Hadhramaut with Socotra in multi-destination packages.
For Desert Sky Travel, this workshop signals a strong step toward professionalizing Yemen’s tourism workforce. Better-trained staff in Hadhramaut hotels means better guest experiences, which in turn supports our efforts to market combined itineraries: culture and heritage in Hadhramaut, plus nature and adventure in Socotra.
