Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mutie Damaj, along with Deputy Foreign Minister Mustafa Numan, inaugurated the Yemeni Cultural Week, titled "Yemen: A Journey to the Gates of the Arabian Peninsula," today at the Casa Árabe (Arab House), affiliated with the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Madrid.
The Yemeni Cultural Week is being organized as part of efforts to promote Yemen and highlight its rich cultural, civilizational, and human heritage. It is being held in partnership with Casa Árabe, the Masarat Foundation, and the Yemeni-Spanish Friendship Association, from May 18 to 23.
The opening ceremony included welcoming remarks emphasizing the importance of Yemeni cultural presence on the international stage. The director of Casa Árabe welcomed the Minister of Culture and Tourism and the Deputy Foreign Minister, while Minister Damaj, in his address, discussed the deep cultural ties between Yemen and Spain and the importance of strengthening cultural and civilizational cooperation between the two countries, which contributes to expanding bridges of communication and mutual understanding.
During the ceremony, commemorative gifts were exchanged between the two sides in an atmosphere reflecting the strength of bilateral relations and the spirit of cultural rapprochement between the two friendly countries.
The opening program included the inauguration of the photographic exhibition "Hadramawt... Resilience and Memory" by Spanish photographer Vanessa Lago Barros, which documents aspects of Hadrami identity and its rich historical and human heritage.
The event was attended by the Yemeni Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain, Aws Al-Awad, a number of officials from the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Spanish Ministry of Culture, ambassadors, heads and representatives of Arab diplomatic missions accredited to Madrid, as well as a select group of those interested in cultural affairs and members of the Yemeni community in Spain.
