Coinciding with International Museum Day on May 18th, Mr. Hussein Baslim, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism, accompanied by Mr. Khaled Salam, Director of the Minister's Office, and Mr. Magdi Bashadi, Director General of the Ministry of Tourism Office in the Hadhramaut Coast, conducted an inspection visit to the tourism and antiquities sector in Al-Mukalla.
The delegation began its visit by inspecting the ongoing tourist guiding training course in the governorate, which aims to train young professionals in this vital sector.
During the visit, the Deputy Minister met with the trainees, praising the efforts of the Hadhramaut Coast Tourism Office in organizing such high-quality programs that enhance the efficiency and quality of tourism services. He emphasized the pivotal role of the tourist guide as a cultural representative and a faithful conduit for the history and civilization of the nation to visitors and tourists.
In the same context, and as part of the practical application and field program of the Tourist Guiding course, the trainees accompanied the Deputy Minister and tourism and antiquities officials on an inspection visit to the Mukalla Museum at the historic Sultan's Palace. They were received by Mr. Riyadh Bakramoum, Director General of the General Authority for Antiquities and Museums office in the Hadhramaut Coast.
The delegation, along with the tour guides, toured the current exhibition halls in the museum's eastern wing. They listened to a detailed explanation from Mr. Ahmed Bahamala, Director of the Restoration and Archaeological Maintenance Department at the Authority, regarding the ongoing restoration work in the western wing of the Sultan's Palace and the importance of this major project in preserving the historic building and maintaining its unique architectural character and heritage value.
At the conclusion of the visit, Mr. Magdi Bashadi, Director General of the Ministry of Tourism Office in the Hadhramaut Coast, expressed, on his own behalf and on behalf of the leadership of the Antiquities Authority, his sincere thanks and appreciation to His Excellency the Minister of Culture and Tourism and to Mr. Khalid Salam, Director of the Minister's Office, for their continued attention and support of the tourism and antiquities sectors in the governorate. He emphasized that this integration between training human resources (through the guide training course) and rehabilitating historical sites (such as the restoration of the Sultan's Palace) directly contributes to creating a distinguished tourism and cultural product befitting the status and rich heritage of Hadhramaut.
A number of officials and specialists from the Tourism and Antiquities Offices in the Hadhramaut Coast attended the visit and reception.
