Today, the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Engineer Mutie Damaj, discussed with the Russian Minister of Culture, Olga Lyubimova, ways to enhance cultural cooperation between the Republic of Yemen and the Russian Federation, on the sidelines of the 14th meeting of the Ministers of Culture of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation held in Kazan, Republic of Tatarstan.
The meeting discussed areas of cooperation in the museums and antiquities sector, benefiting from the Russian experience in digital museums, as well as enhancing cooperation in the fields of cinema, arts and joint cultural production, and supporting art institutes and cultural and knowledge exchange programs.
The meeting also touched on the importance of restoring the activity of the Russian Cultural Center from the temporary capital, Aden, in order to contribute to revitalizing cultural and artistic exchange between the two friendly countries, and opening new horizons for cooperation in the creative and cultural fields.
The Russian Minister of Culture praised the cultural relations between the two countries, highlighting the contribution of the Hermitage Museum and the State Oriental Museum to UNESCO’s campaign to support Yemen during 2016 and 2017, by displaying elements of Yemeni heritage and traditional crafts on their cultural platforms.
The Russian minister also extended an invitation to Yemen to participate in a number of international cultural events hosted by Russia, including the “Intermuseum” festival, the International Children’s Cultural Forum, and the 12th St. Petersburg International Forum of United Cultures.
