The Governor of the Socotra Archipelago, Engineer Raafat Ali Ibrahim Al-Thaqali, chaired the regular meeting of the governorate's Executive Office today, in the presence of the Deputy Governor, Brigadier General Saleh Ali Saad, to discuss the level of executive and service performance and to address the most prominent challenges and needs for the coming period.
At the beginning of the meeting, Governor Al-Thaqali reviewed the results of his recent visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which came at the official invitation of the Kingdom, and his meetings with His Excellency the President and members of the Presidential Leadership Council, the Prime Minister, and a number of officials and supporting entities.
Governor Al-Thaqali explained that the visit was fruitful and included discussions on various issues related to the Socotra Archipelago Governorate, primarily basic services, infrastructure, and the governorate's developmental and service needs. He noted that the coming period will witness the implementation of several vital projects with support from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, most notably the completion and operation of the 22 May Hospital project, which will contribute to improving the level of health services in the governorate.
During the meeting, Governor Al-Thaqali mentioned his meeting with the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to Yemen and General Supervisor of the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen, Mohammed Al Jaber. He praised the strong fraternal relations and affirmed that the meeting addressed ways to enhance support provided to the governorate, particularly in the health, education, electricity, and basic services sectors, within the framework of humanitarian and development efforts aimed at improving services and meeting the needs of the governorate's citizens.
Governor Al-Thaqali stressed the importance of increasing performance and working with a spirit of responsibility and dedication to serve the governorate and its people. He emphasized the necessity for executive offices, particularly those providing services, to submit regular reports detailing their activity levels, achievements, and any obstacles hindering their work.
Governor Al-Thaqali also indicated the local authority's intention to establish a governorate coordination council, similar to those in the southern governorates, to enhance coordination and support the local authority's efforts in various developmental and service-related aspects.
The meeting included presentations from the deputy governor and directors of executive and service offices, who reviewed the level of activity and achievements during the past period, as well as the most prominent challenges and difficulties, and the needs required to overcome them in the coming phase.
The executive office expressed its appreciation for the brotherly support provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the governorate in various fields, especially in service and development sectors, and its continued support for the local authority.
The Executive Office approved the establishment of the Governorate Coordination Council and designated land areas along the coastline as 200 meters from the sea in uninhabited open areas and 50 meters in populated areas. It also approved the establishment of two gas distribution centers in the districts of Hadibu, Qalansiyah, and Abd al-Kuri.
Furthermore, the Executive Office recommended to the Presidential Leadership Council the establishment of a university for the Socotra Archipelago, a branch of the Central Bank in the governorate, and a model fuel station, all of which would contribute to strengthening the governorate's service and development infrastructure.
