Aden – Desert Sky:
Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mutie Damaj, met today, Monday, in the interim capital, Aden, with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Yemen, Thomas Schneider, to discuss ways to strengthen and resume bilateral cooperation in the cultural and tourism sectors, and to activate the role of cultural institutions to enhance their presence and meet the demands of the current phase.
The meeting addressed promising investment opportunities in the tourism sector in the liberated governorates, the Ministry's efforts to revitalize cultural and tourism activities, protect antiquities and museums, preserve historical cities, and support its affiliated bodies and institutions.
Minister Damaj emphasized the importance of supporting cultural infrastructure and institutions, stressing the Ministry's commitment to strengthening coordination with international partners to protect and manage cultural heritage.
He also addressed the environmental and tourism situation on the island of Socotra, calling for the adoption of programs and projects that contribute to restoring its tourism prominence, and affirming the Ministry's readiness to provide the necessary support for implementing quality projects that bolster the resilience of the cultural and tourism sector.
The meeting addressed the opening of the “German House” in Aden and ways to coordinate with the German Archaeological Center, in addition to working on establishing partnerships with German museums to contribute to the exchange of expertise and the preservation of cultural heritage.
For his part, the German Ambassador emphasized the importance of the cultural dimension, noting the history of cultural cooperation between the two countries and his country’s readiness to support this sector, including joint cooperation in strengthening cultural institutions in the liberated governorates. The meeting was also attended by the Deputy German Ambassador, Sophia Herzberg.
