The Minister of State and Governor of Aden, Abdulrahman Sheikh, met today, Wednesday, with the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, and his accompanying delegation.
At the beginning of the meeting, Governor Sheikh welcomed the UN envoy, who is visiting Aden as part of political efforts to advance the peace process, praising the role played by the United Nations in this regard.
Governor Sheikh reviewed the latest developments in Aden and the efforts being made by the local authority to normalize public life, reactivate state institutions, and improve the level of basic services for citizens, in light of the challenges facing the country.
Governor Sheikh explained that the local authority is working according to a comprehensive vision to transform the capital, Aden, into a model of stability and development, enhancing institutional performance and improving resource management. This aims to alleviate the suffering of citizens and raise their standard of living. He emphasized the importance of increasing international support and directing it towards sustainable infrastructure and service projects. This will strengthen Aden's resilience, help insulate it from political and military conflict, and focus on development and reconstruction efforts as a key to achieving stability.
The meeting also addressed the political process in Yemen. The two sides discussed the latest developments and UN efforts to revive the peace process. UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg reviewed the UN's efforts to advance the political process and the endeavors to reach a comprehensive political settlement.
For his part, Governor Sheikh reiterated the local authority's support for any serious efforts that lead to ending the war, achieving a comprehensive and sustainable peace, and finding solutions to all just causes, foremost among them the Southern issue.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the governor affirmed the local authority's commitment to continued coordination with the United Nations and strengthening its partnership with UN humanitarian organizations operating in Aden, with the aim of improving the living conditions of citizens.
The meeting was attended by the governor's advisor, Redha Hajeb; Roxana Bazargan, Head of the Political Affairs Section at the Office of the Special Envoy; Dirk-Jan Amzgåt, the Special Envoy's Economic Advisor; Brett Scott, Director of the Aden Office; and Kali Saleh, Special Assistant to the Special Envoy.
