Hadhramaut Governor Briefed on Project to Boost Local Economies and Livelihoods.

Member of the Presidential Leadership Council and Governor of Hadhramaut, Mr. Salem Ahmed Al-Khanbashi, was briefed today in the city of Mukalla on the project to Strengthen Local Economies and Sustainable Livelihoods for Empowerment in Yemen (RESOLVE)

implemented in the districts of Seiyun, Tarim, and Al-Qatn in Wadi Hadhramaut, funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with the Benevolence Coalition for Humanitarian Relief.


The Governor, in the presence of the Deputy Governor for Development Affairs, Mr. Riyadh Al-Juhuri, and the Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation Office for Wadi and Desert Hadhramaut, Engineer Bin Sheikhhan, listened to a briefing from UNDP representative Engineer Abdullah bin Makhashen and the Executive Director of the Benevolence Coalition for Humanitarian Relief, Engineer Fahmi bin Mansour, on the project's objectives and components, which aim to support and rehabilitate small and medium enterprises for farmers and enhance economic empowerment opportunities and improve sustainable livelihoods in the targeted areas.


The Governor of Hadhramaut stressed the importance of aligning the project's interventions with the developmental needs and priorities in Wadi Hadhramaut, and strengthening coordination with government agencies, the private sector, and relevant entities, to ensure a sustainable impact of the project and support farmers and owners of small and medium enterprises.


The project includes developing priority agricultural value chains, foremost among them wheat and livestock, facilitating access to finance for entrepreneurs and farmers through a revolving fund and advisory services, in addition to strengthening partnership between the public and private sectors, as well as implementing infrastructure supportive of the agricultural sector and targeted value chains, and automating relevant sectors and entities within the single-window system.


The meeting was attended by the Director of Programs and Projects at the Benevolence Coalition for Humanitarian Relief, Engineer Saleh Bamakhshab, and the Project Manager, Engineer Rabie Badaam.
